Save Beck Road
We are working to save the unique and iconic Beck Road Conservation Area from this massive development as well as protect the surrounding area including Netil House and Bocking Street.
You can see the details for the development at Hackney Council Planning Application No. 2022/0988 for 79-85 Mare Street; 1a And 350 Bocking Street, London, E8 4RG. (Please note that to view the application you must be logged in to the planning website).
Here is an architectural diagram of what the development will look like, demostrating how high it is and its proximity to Beck Road:
We need as many people as possible to object to this massive 6 story development by writing/emailing the case officer: Alix.hauser@hackney.gov.uk, and our local councillors,
Cllr M Can Ozsen: mcan.ozsen@hackney.gov.uk
Cllr Anntoinette Bramble: anntoinette.bramble@hackney.gov.uk
or by commenting on the Hackney Council website: planning@hackney.gov.uk.
There has been NO public consultation on this “important” development which is partly owned by Hackney Council.
We want a public consultation on this development – it’s partly public money and our community!
We want a say on what is built in our neighbourhood and conservation area.
We want an enhancing and green development which serves the needs of the local community - low in height, high on green space, low in density, high on social housing.
Beck Road is a special heritage site of attractive, well preserved 1890s terraced houses intersected by a unique double railway arch which was designated as a Conservation Area in 2021. It is an iconic street with a rich cultural heritage which has housed many artists and their studios and featured in many films, music videos and adverts.
There is a planning application, Ref: 2022/0988, to build a massive and towering development on Mare Street and Bocking Street. This will overwhelm the conservation area and change the nature of the neighbourhood as well as setting a precedent for future development on the Ash Grove Bus Station and the 5 Points Brewery site.
Local residents and businesses want a joined-up consultation considering all three potential developments and their combined impact on our neighbourhood.
We want to co-design something that will work for everyone with good housing, sustainable green spaces and low-cost workspaces and commercial units.
